Joel Jeschke is a professional drummer/percussionist and composer based out of Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Born and raised in rural Saskatchewan, Joel began playing drums at age 9 in his families' church. Not long he became interested metal and hardcore music. At age fifteen Joel started performing with his first band 'Motives' with whom he recorded and released the EP 'Individuals', and toured across western Canada. During this time Joel was awarded the Premier's Centennial Arts Scholarship to travel to Boston to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music summer Percussion Camp. This experience turned Joel's Metal focused view of music into a global view, crossing all genres and traditions. After Graduating from high school Joel moved to Edmonton to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music at MacEwan University. During his studies Joel became an active member of the Edmonton music scene as a member of several local bands, as well as a freelance player. Joel has also performed as a percussionist with the award winning wind orchestra known as 'Edmonton Winds' (formerly known as The New Edmonton Wind Sinfonia) as well as the Alberta performances of the Distant Worlds Orchestra, a touring orchestra playing music from the Final Fantasy video game series. Having finished his studies Joel has built a resumeaccompanying a wide variety of local artists and bands including Jerrold Dubyk, the Stephanie Urquhart, the Kate Blechinger Quartet, the Brendan McGrath Trio, the Leah Harman Quartet, post-rock band You Are An Explorer, folk/francophone band Post Script, and rock band Whale and the Wolf. Joel is also an active 'pit' drummer who has performed the musicals 'Sideshow', as well as the pre-broadway premier of 'Hadestown', a folk opera developed by folk musician Anaïs Mitchell and acclaimed New York director Rachel Chavkin. As a bandleader, Joel is also a composer for his band the Joel Jeschke Trio through which he has performed at Make Music Edmonton Festival (2017), Kaleido Arts Festival (2017) as well as Edmontons prestigious jazz club the Yardbird Suite.
